SoCal Hiking Groups

SoCal Groups Header

Hiking, especially in Southern California, has taken on a life of its own in the last few years. And with the internet at our fingertips, new groups are being created almost constantly. Some groups cater to specifics, such as women only groups, while others are happy to hike with anyone willing to meet at the designated time and place. So, to help you navigate, I’ve compiled a short list of some SoCal Hiking Groups and a little bit about them.

Mtn Chicks – I am an ambassador for the SoCal Chapter of Mtn Chicks; an all-inclusive global group that caters to women. While the Facebook groups around the world are for women only, unless otherwise stated, men, kids and furbabies are welcome to join any official Mtn Chicks event with a current member. For more information about, or to join a chapter, visit MtnChicks.com.

Switchback Chics – This group, based in Arizona with chapters throughout various states, boasts a mission to “unite, encourage & promote women to be unique, adventure often, pursue passions and seek their true north.” Events are geared towards getting women outdoors with co-ed and family hikes appearing in their lineup as well. Check them out by visiting switchbackchics.com.

TrailMothers – Despite the name, this group is geared towards all parents who enjoy time on the trails with their kiddos. The group can be found on Facebook and Instagram and hosts hikes as well as parent nights out! Events are generally hosted in the Los Angeles area on the weekends by the group’s founder.

Everyone’s Hike – This is a group for literally everyone with events in Los Angeles County! Events do not have a maximum attendance number and anyone who is able to walk (or be carried) is welcome to join. Events are posted on their Facebook page and led by their founder Carlos. Hikes are themed, making these events a spectacle for all who attend. They even have a dedicated Dodger hiking group!

Trash Free Earth – TFE is an environmental community organization that advocates for a sustainable trash free environment through education and environmental stewardship. They host trail cleanup events throughout the year in and around the Southern California area. For a complete list of events, and to read more about this amazing group, visit trashfreeearth.org.

SoCal Hikers – This Facebook group is a great place for information and to share current adventures with your peers. It also has a wealth of information about the Six Pack of Peaks and current trail conditions on the mountains. Members will post links to events they are hosting, but they are not SoCalHiker.net sanctioned hikes. This is a great place to meet other hikers; both men and women.

There are so many other groups I could list here, it’s almost overwhelming. But, if you’re looking for a group to join on a hike, or simply want a change of pace, why not check out one of the above SoCal Hiking Groups! Have a favorite group you’d like to add? Let us know in the comments below!
