Gear Review: Osprey Hikelite 18

Hikelite Header

As many of you already know, I’m a huge fan of Osprey. So, when they asked me to write a blog post for their Dear Osprey campaign in exchange for a new pack, I was super stoked! But I love my little Osprey Hikelite 18 so much I decided to do a gear review.

First things first, this pack is super light for having a metal frame! Compared to frameless packs, like the REI Flash 18, this pack does not wear on your shoulders and I can see myself wearing it for hours at a time! It also seems roomier than it’s REI cousin, but that could just be because the frame makes it stand upright.

Unlike other packs, there is not a ton of internal storage pockets. You will find one pocket on top provided for sunglasses, and a hydration bladder pocket in the main compartment. But other than that, you’ll need to carry stuff sacks to organize anything you’re bringing with you. That said, there are also two very large side pockets that can easily fit a hydroflask or nalgene; something you won’t find on this packs competitors.

What’s in my Backpack

My favorite part of the pack is the shoulder straps! They’re so comfy and make it easy to carry this pack around on a long hike or a day at Disneyland. Yup, this pack is pretty versatile and can be used on and off the trails. It also comes standard with a rain cover that easily stows away in a pocket located on the very bottom of the back. Wait, I lied when I said the shoulder straps were my favorite. The rain cover is actually my favorite thing ever. And Osprey, hands down, makes the best rain covers!!

Another great thing about the Hikelite 18 is that it doesn’t sit directly on your back. The frame comes with Osprey’s Airspeed backpanel, leaving your back ventilated and able to breathe. Oh, and did I mention that it also has compression straps on each side? What?!? Yes! And, it’s amazing.

So, if you’re in the market for a good daypack or everyday pack, I highly recommend picking up one of Osprey’s Hikelite 18 backpacks.
